Motion.
Not your average LFO. Map a filter, a reverb, a plugin knob, and let it breathe. Twenty shapes, warp and time per lane, two targets each, and you see every curve move.
Four lanes that never repeat
Twenty shapes from breath and tide to drunk walk and sample & hold. One cycle takes 2 seconds to 10 minutes, and the four lanes run at uneven ratios, so they almost never line up.
Map anything, twice per lane
Click Map, then any parameter: Live devices, VST and AU plugins, rack macros, the mixer. Like Live's own modulators, Motion moves the knob around its value and writes no automation.
Warp and time
WARP bends the time inside each cycle, slow start and fast end or the other way round. TIME speeds each lane up or down, ×¼ to ×4.
The same take, every time
Restart on Play starts all lanes from the top with the same random seed, so every playback and every bounce sounds like the take you heard. HOLD freezes them for a break.
Questions.
Is Motion really free?
Yes, and it stays free. Enter your email and we send you a link to your Thoow account, where you download the device, now and for every update.
What do I need?
Ableton Live 12 with Max for Live: Live 12 Suite, or Live 12 Standard with the Max for Live add-on. It runs on Mac and Windows. Live 11 is not supported.
How do I install it?
Drag Thoow Motion.amxd onto any track, or into your User Library to keep it at hand. It is an audio effect that lets the sound pass unchanged, so it works anywhere, also inside instrument and effect racks.
How do I map a parameter?
Click Map in a lane, then click the knob or slider you want to move. The field shows device and parameter, the × removes it. Each lane has two targets.
Does it write automation?
No. Like Live's LFO, Motion modulates around the value you set. You can still turn the knob by hand, and removing the mapping leaves it where it was.
Does it follow the tempo?
No, Motion runs free on purpose, from 2 seconds to 10 minutes per cycle. With Restart on Play it starts with the song every time.
